Sasha Sun was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, surrounded by an incredible blend of cultures. Her father’s family immigrated from Taiwan, while her mother’s side of the family comes from France and Germany. Growing up, the kitchen was a place where these two differing worlds came together — whether it was cooking traditional Asian dishes with her dad and grandma — a/k/a “Popo” — or whipping up classic French desserts with her step-dad, a classically trained pastry chef from France. Food was always more than just meals — it was a way to connect, share stories, and express love. These influences sparked a passion for food and the joy of crafting something from scratch, something that not only nourishes but also brings people together.

It wasn’t just the culinary world that shaped Sasha though – in fact, her journey with cannabis has informed her story even more. Her first experience with cannabis was in middle school. After struggling with anxiety and trouble focusing in school, cannabis became Sasha’s quiet ally in those years. As she grew up, her understanding and use of cannabis deepened. After Popo was diagnosed with cancer, her journey with cannabis took on a whole new meaning. Popo had asthma and couldn’t smoke, but after watching her suffer including rapidly losing weight, unable to eat, and struggling with sleep, Sasha started making cannabis-infused edibles for her. The results were nothing short of transformative. Popo regained some strength, put weight back on, and most importantly, began to smile again. It became clear to Sasha in those moments, that cannabis could not only alleviate symptoms but also truly improve quality of life. 

As it turned out, it wasn’t just Grandma Sun who would benefit from Sasha’s knowledge. Sasha herself developed autoimmune conditions that left her in constant pain and unable to work the way she once had. The sun ironically became her enemy, and her joints ached with every movement. But as she began to incorporate cannabis into her homemade topical creations, something incredible happened — her pain lessened, her eczema melted away, and she was able to move again — feeling relief for the first time.

As it turned out, it wasn’t just Grandma Sun who would benefit from Sasha’s knowledge.
